A dedicated umbrella body for Criminal Record Checks (CRBs) throughout the United Kingdom

Why first standard?

First Standard was formed as a dedicated Umbrella Body in August 2005 following a direct approach from the Criminal Records Bureau.

Christopher Elliot-Newman, the Managing Director, is an experienced Countersignatory having worked in this capacity since the launch of the Criminal Records Bureau in March 2002.

From the beginning, the focus of First Standard has been to provide an efficient and personal service to its client organisations, working with them to develop appropriate policies, procedures and protocols to ensure that their use of criminal records checks meets all legal requirements and supports their recruitment processes.

First Standard is recognized by the responsible bodies in England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland as an organisation that can be trusted to handle the confidential information included on a Disclosure Certificate with integrity and in accordance with the provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998.

First Standard has successfully supported clients through the introduction of Disclosure checks so that their staff have felt supported throughout the process.

First Standard provides all documentation required for successful completion of the CRB Disclosure Application Forms to minimise delays caused by mistakes or omissions.  Applications are processed within one working day of receipt and forwarded to the Disclosure & Barring Service, Disclosure Scotland or AccessNI by first class mail.  Similarly, the employer’s copy of the disclosure, where provided, is forwarded within one working day.  Telephone (01434 611587) and email (checks@firststandardltd.co.uk) support are available as required.

First Standard works with you to reduce your exposure to risk.
